A quick chat with Shikhar Mohan - Shikhar Mohan says that he had positive intent during batting yesterday. Goes on to say that he wanted to bring his Ranii form to this game. On the run out of Abhimanyu Easwaran, he says that it played on his mind for a few overs, but wanted to make up his runs as well. On the partnership with Ishan Kishan, he says that it felt good and also says that he missed out on a big hundred. Ends by saying that the pitch looks excellent for batting, still.

Duleep Trophy final Live: Mohammed Siraj struggles as South Zone pay for short-ball tactics

Mohammed Siraj endured an expensive opening day in the Duleep Trophy final as South Zone struggled to contain East Zone's batters.

Siraj finished with figures of 0/96 from 14 overs, while East raced to 385/4 by stumps. His day began with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi attacking him with a 4, 6 and 4 sequence, while Kumar Kushagra later took advantage of the short-ball strategy.

South Zone repeatedly tested Kishan and Kushagra with short deliveries after tea, but the pair responded aggressively. Kushagra even hooked Siraj for six over fine leg as East strengthened their position.

With only 79 overs completed during the day, South Zone also fell short of the required over-rate and now face a long second day in the field.

Duleep Trophy final Live: Shikhar Mohan misses maiden first-class century after impressive debut

Shikhar Mohan produced an impressive performance on his Duleep Trophy debut but narrowly missed out on a maiden first-class century against South Zone.

The Jharkhand batter, brought into the XI in place of Virat Singh, scored a fluent 85 and looked increasingly comfortable as East Zone continued to dominate.

Mohan was particularly effective against spin and built a strong partnership with Abhimanyu Easwaran. He appeared well placed to reach three figures before chopping a delivery from CV Milind onto his stumps.

His dismissal left East Zone at 241/4, but South Zone could not make further inroads as Ishan Kishan and Kumar Kushagra took control.

Duleep Trophy final Live: Abhimanyu Easwaran falls short of century on 31st birthday

Abhimanyu Easwaran marked his 31st birthday with an impressive 72 for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final, but missed out on a well-deserved century after being involved in a run-out.

Easwaran looked assured throughout his innings and brought up his half-century from only 46 deliveries. He combined his trademark solidity with an attacking back-foot game, especially when South Zone's bowlers bowled short.

His partnership with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave East an excellent start before the youngster's dismissal. Easwaran then continued alongside Shikhar Mohan, but a mix-up resulted in his departure for 72.

Duleep Trophy final Live: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi blasts 44 as East Zone make flying start

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided East Zone with an explosive start in the Duleep Trophy final, smashing 34 off only 24 deliveries against South Zone.

The youngster was particularly aggressive against Mohammed Siraj, taking the India pacer apart with a sequence of 4, 6 and 4 during his opening spell. His attacking approach helped East establish momentum early in the innings.

Abhimanyu Easwaran provided the stability at the other end and went on to score 72. Sooryavanshi eventually fell to CV Milind, but his quickfire knock had already given East a strong foundation.

Duleep Trophy final Live: Ishan Kishan slams unbeaten century as East Zone dominate South Zone

Ishan Kishan led from the front with an unbeaten 111 as East Zone ended the opening day of the Duleep Trophy 2026-27 final in complete control. East reached 385/4 at stumps, with Kishan and Kumar Kushagra adding 144 runs for the fifth wicket.

Kishan brought up his 10th first-class century and also crossed the 4,000-run mark in the format. His knock came at an important stage as East recovered after South Zone had made early inroads.

Kushagra remained unbeaten on 63, putting South's bowlers under pressure with aggressive strokeplay. East Zone will resume on Monday with a strong platform to build a potentially match-winning first-innings total.

How many wickets will SZ take in this innings?

Tap to make your prediction

First innings lead will be crucial - Given the nature of the surface at Chepauk, the red soil pitch will most likely bring the spinners into play heavily on the last couple of days. But for now, it does look like a batting paradise and hence, it will be a big plus for whichever side takes the first innings lead. Fod now, East Zone look in a great position, but if South Zone find early wickets, they might actually have the chance to out bat their opponents. Stay tuned as a fantastic day of cricketing action is about to begin soon.

Day 2 of the Final - Hello, and welcome back to the MA Chidambaram Stadium where Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy Final is set to get underway between East Zone and South Zone. Day 1 belonged to East Zone, and South Zone will be eager to get going going and even things up on Day 2.

Kishan takes the reins - The final session on Day 1 began with South Zone having a chance to get back in the game. However, Mohammed Siraj yet again failed to make an impact and there was hardly any purchase for the spinners as well. After a cautious start, Ishan Kishan kept shifting gears and just grew in confidence. Kumar Kushagra gave him great support and not a single wicket fell in that final session that produced 139 runs in just 23 overs. Kishan went on to notch up a sensational century, while Kushagra remained unbeaten as well on 63. Right then, South Zone have it all to do on Day 2 as they look to bridge the gap between the two teams and make a real match out of it. East Zone, meanwhile, will have milestones in their minds - 400, then 450, and maybe even 500, and it does seem possible given the pitch has looked excellent for batting. Day 2 will begin on Monday, September 7, at 4 am GMT (9.30 am IST), but you can also tune in sooner to our build-up. Cheers!

A breezy second session - South Zone weren't just up against some eye-catching batting from the East Zone batters, but they were also up against the clock. Tilak Varma was forced to bowl spin in tandem for a large chunk of the post-Lunch session. Things began brightly as Tripurana Vijay got rid of Sudip Gharami, the only batting failure for East Zone thus far. However, Shikhar Mohan took charge and added 94 runs with skipper Ishan Kishan before getting out on 85 late in the session. It was Chama Milind yet again who got that big wicket for South Zone.

Utter dominance with the bat - Ishan Kishan had no hesitation in batting first, and his openers made his call all the more correct by putting up a 100-run opening stand, that too in very quick time. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the first one to fall, but birthday boy Abhimanyu Easwaran showed why he's been knocking of the national team's door for the past few years, but he got agonizingly run out on 72. Chama Milind was the pick of the bowlers for South Zone in the first session, which lasted 2.5 hours and saw plenty of runs, but only 27 overs were bowled in total.

11.33 am GMT (5.03 pm IST) - STUMPS, DAY 1 - End of the first day's play of this Duleep Trophy Final, and we have to say that East Zone have really done well to take bragging rights early in the game. As for South Zone, it has been a long day in the field, and by the looks of it, this toil might continue well into Day 2 as well, but you never know.

Duleep Trophy Final Live: East Zone took firm control of the Duleep Trophy 2026-27 final after a commanding batting performance against South Zone on the opening day at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. Led by captain Ishan Kishan, East Zone finished the day at 385/4, leaving South Zone with plenty of work to do on the second morning.

Kishan was the star performer, remaining unbeaten on 111 as he continued his efforts to establish himself as a reliable red-ball batter. The left-hander reached his 10th first-class century and also completed 4,000 runs in first-class cricket. After initially taking his time, Kishan accelerated following his half-century, including hitting T Vijay for six immediately after reaching the landmark.

Kumar Kushagra provided excellent support at the other end and finished unbeaten on 63. He struck five sixes and four fours, taking particular advantage of South Zone's short-ball tactics. The pair added 144 runs without being separated in just 26.4 overs.

East Zone had earlier received an aggressive start from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who smashed 44 off 37 deliveries. The young batter also attacked Mohammed Siraj during the pacer's opening spell, hitting him for 4, 6 and 4 in quick succession. Abhimanyu Easwaran complemented the aggression with a fluent 72 before being run out on his 31st birthday.

Shikhar Mohan then produced an impressive 85 on his Duleep Trophy debut. Replacing Virat Singh in the XI, the Jharkhand batter looked comfortable against spin and appeared set for a century before chopping CV Milind onto his stumps.

South Zone's bowlers struggled to contain the East batters, with Siraj finishing with expensive figures of 0/96 from 14 overs. Only 79 overs were bowled during the day, with South also falling short of the required over-rate.

East Zone, seeking their first Duleep Trophy title in 13 years, will resume with Kishan and Kushagra well set and firmly in control.
