India vs Sri Lanka Live,1st Test: Rain could again disrupt proceedings on Monday, with Galle facing an 83% chance of precipitation, according to AccuWeather.
Hourly forecasts put the chance of rain at 51% at 10am, 47% at 11am, 44% at noon, 48% at 1pm and 52% at 2pm. The probability then stands at 45% at 3pm, 39% at 4pm and 34% at 5pm before rising slightly to 40% at 6pm.
After Day 2 was reduced by rain, another stop-start day could be in store for India and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's team management will also be concerned by the performance of their two pacers, Kumara and Fernando, who struggled to take wickets and contain India's scoring.
Suthar's contribution will please the Indian team management, with captain Shubman Gill having stressed before the match that the lower order needed to contribute with the bat in the absence of injured all-rounders such as Washington Sundar.

Rain could once again become a major factor on Day 3 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle. The weather had already played a big role on Day 2, with rains of varying intensity and a wet outfield delaying the start until 2.35 pm. Another stop-start day could now be on the cards, with an 83% overall chance of precipitation forecast for Monday in Galle. According to AccuWeather, there is a 51% chance of rain at 10 am, 47% at 11 am, 44% at noon, 48% at 1 pm and 52% at 2 pm. The chance stands at 45% at 3 pm, 39% at 4 pm and 34% at 5 pm before rising marginally to 40% at 6 pm. India ended Day 2 at 460 for nine, with Kuldeep Yadav on 12 and Prasidh Krishna on one.
IND vs SL, 1st Test Day 3 Live: Jurel makes his chance count
Dhruv Jurel had been searching for runs and came into Day 2 after a difficult period, but he found a way to make an impact in Galle. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 51, his first fifty in eight innings, and played an important role in helping India recover after Sri Lanka's spinners had taken control. Jurel was given a huge reprieve when Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva dropped a healthy edge off Prabath Jayasuriya at first slip. Jurel was on 29 at the time.
He made the most of the opportunity and soon moved beyond fifty, including a six over mid-wicket against Keshara Nuwantha and a boundary off Lahiru Kumara. He added 55 runs for the seventh wicket with Manav Suthar, who scored 24. Jurel eventually fell for 51 when de Silva took a flying catch at slip off Jayasuriya. The innings still gave India valuable runs at a time when the lower order needed to contribute.

Sri Lanka's spinners made India work much harder on Day 2 after the visitors had dominated much of the opening day. The home bowlers returned with better lines and lengths after the rain delay, cutting down the scoring areas for India's batters. Keshara Nuwantha played an important role, dismissing Rishabh Pant for 39 and KL Rahul for 81. He then trapped Ravindra Jadeja leg before soon after the tea break, leaving India at 377 for six.
Prabath Jayasuriya also played a major role, getting the important wicket of Devdutt Padikkal for 167 and later removing Dhruv Jurel for 51. The spinners did not allow India to run away with the game even though the visitors eventually reached 460 for nine. Some wickets came through good bowling, while others were the result of India's batters taking risks. Sri Lanka will take confidence from the way their spinners improved as the day progressed.

Rishabh Pant's stay in the middle ended for 39 as India lost one of their overnight batters on Day 2. Pant appeared keen to put pressure back on the Sri Lankan bowlers but his attempt to play an aggressive shot brought his dismissal. He tried a loft off off-spinner Keshara Nuwantha, but the shot lacked the required control and Sonal Dinusha ran in to complete the catch. Pant's dismissal came before Devdutt Padikkal could reach his 150. India had resumed the day at 288 for two and were hoping to build a much bigger total after their strong first day. Instead, Sri Lanka's bowlers tightened their lines and began to make scoring more difficult. Pant's wicket was one of several moments when India lost wickets either to the Sri Lankan spinners' bowling or to their own mistakes. The visitors still managed to reach 460 for nine by the end of the day.

Devdutt Padikkal has given India another option at No. 3 after producing a 167-run knock in Galle. The left-hander resumed Day 2 on 131 and continued to build on his strong position despite Sri Lanka's bowlers coming back into the contest. He reached his maiden 150 in 215 balls when he pulled pacer Asitha Fernando for a boundary. Padikkal eventually fell at the stroke of tea, deceived by left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, with wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella completing the dismissal.
His 167 was the centrepiece of India's 460 for nine at stumps. The knock could also give India's team management another option when Sai Sudharsan returns from his toe injury. Padikkal was asked to occupy an important No. 3 slot and responded with a long innings after India lost Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul during the second session. It was a timely performance from the Karnataka batter.

Despite that late slide, India have put themselves in a strong position with a big first-innings total. A chat with the centurion - Devdutt Padikkal says he had dreamt of this moment and has spent the last two years working hard to ensure that whenever an opportunity came his way, he could do something special. On playing spin, he believes that you need to have certain plans in your head, as you cannot always react to what the bowler delivers. Over the last year or so, he has worked on ways to put the pressure back on the bowlers with his shots. Padikkal says having clarity in his plans helps with his confidence and footwork. He is focused on committing fully to whatever he decides to do. Mentions that the hunger to score more runs remains, as he enjoys batting. Adds that the next 10 balls after reaching a hundred are particularly important to him, as he looks to stay focused. When asked if the pitch had started to grip a lot more on Day 2, Padikkal says not so much, and he feels it will need another couple of sessions before the surface starts breaking up. Believes pitches at Galle tend to quicken up pretty fast on Days 3 and 4 and hopes that is the case. When asked if there are any celebrations in order for the milestone, Padikkal smiles and says that he is tired and will go to bed.
The hosts find wickets late - India kept the runs flowing in the final session, but Sri Lanka refused to let them get away, striking at regular intervals. Prabath Jayasuriya removed Jadeja cheaply, but Jurel countered with a fine fifty, adding 55 alongside Manav Suthar. He had a life on 29 when the Lankan skipper put him down, while Lahiru Kumara briefly eased the pressure by conceding 29 in three overs, only for Dhananjaya de Silva to make amends with a stunning first-slip catch to remove him later. Siraj was promoted to swing hard but managed just one six, while Manav Suthar showed promise in his 24 before falling while trying to accelerate. Jayasuriya claimed a four-fer, and with India finishing on 460/9, one would think that they might not come out to bat and let their bowlers use the early morning conditions to make inroads, that is, if rain permits.

India add runs, Lanka fight back - After a frustrating morning lost entirely to rain and a wet outfield, play finally got underway nearly five hours after the scheduled start. India resumed on 288/2 and continued to pile on the runs, but Sri Lanka came back strongly with the second new ball. Pant and Rahul fell in quick succession to the impressive debutant Keshara Nuwantha, before Devdutt Padikkal carried on to a magnificent 167, only to be undone by a beauty from Prabath Jayasuriya. India still added 76 runs in the session to reach 364/5 at Tea.

Despite getting only 43 overs of play with rain once again dominating the day, there was plenty of action, with India adding 172 runs while Sri Lanka picked up 7 wickets. The hosts’ overnight plans clearly paid off as they bowled with greater consistency, particularly their spinners, and made India work hard for their runs. It was a much better contest between the sides, though Sri Lanka will surely wonder where this performance was on the opening day, because a similar effort then could have made this a far tighter battle heading into Moving Day.
